Creeper farm setup — designs, AFK yields, gunpowder + TNT economy.
Gunpowder is the rocket-fuel and TNT economy on DonutSMP. A creeper-only farm pumps it out 24/7 and pairs perfectly with sugarcane (for crafting rockets).
A generic mob farm gets you bones, arrows, string, rotten flesh, and some gunpowder. A creeper-only farm uses cats to scare other mob types away, so 90%+ of your spawns are creepers. Yield per hour goes up 5-10×.
Place cats every 8 blocks around a flat dark spawning platform. Cats scare zombies, skeletons, and spiders — only creepers spawn. Killing chamber funnels them to a kill spot via water streams.
Yield: 50-90 gunpowder per hour AFK.
Use the Nether's mob cap by spawning creepers in the Nether and sending them through a portal to a kill chamber in the overworld. Works but more complex.
Yield: 100-150/hr if tuned right.
Build a dark spawn platform on the Nether roof (1.16+ bedrock comp). Creepers fall through tube to overworld kill chamber. Highest yield but most build effort.
Yield: 150-250/hr.
You need creepers to die from player kill (or fall + finishing punch) to drop gunpowder. Lava doesn't drop loot. Use:
Looting III sword = ~2 gunpowder per kill average. Always farm with Looting III.

Bulk strategy: craft to TNT before selling. ~5× value increase per gunpowder.
You need 4+ cats per chunk to fully block other mob spawns. Easy fix: catch ocelots from jungle, tame with raw cod (Bedrock) or raw salmon (Java). Once tamed, cats follow + scare mobs.
Do I need to be in render distance? Yes — within 128 blocks of farm AND chunks loaded. AFK alt accounts.
Can I farm in survival without TNT mining? Yes. The farm is fully renewable, just slow. Bulk-craft into TNT before selling.
What about charged creepers? Need lightning. Not practical for AFK farms.
