Build a DonutSMP bamboo farm — step-by-step tutorial with yields and profit math.
A bamboo farm is the cheapest, fastest passive income setup on DonutSMP. Build it in 30 minutes, earn 1-2M coins per day passive. Here's the exact tutorial.
Mark a 7×7 grid. Each cell will hold one bamboo plant. Water source at one end flowing to opposite end.
Place 49 dirt blocks in a 7×7 grid. Surround with stone or any solid block to contain the farm.
Place water bucket at one corner. It'll flow to the opposite corner (water flows 8 blocks naturally).
Right-click each dirt block with bamboo to plant. You should have 49 bamboo plants total.
Dig a 1-block trench at the bottom of the water flow. Place hopper minecart in the trench. As bamboo grows and breaks (from water flow), drops fall into the hopper.
Hopper from minecart trench → into double chest.
When chest is full, run /sell all from your inventory. Or set up a hopper trade with the /sell NPC near spawn.
Bamboo grows ~1 block every 2-3 minutes per plant in good light. Water flow naturally breaks the bamboo when it grows too tall, dropping items.
Yield per hour: ~120-180 bamboo per plant × 49 plants ÷ 60 min ≈ 5,000-7,000 bamboo/hour active.
Best: list 1+ stack of 64 on /order at 18 each. Sells instantly.
Active hours (you're online or alt is logged in): ~6-8 hours of farm running per day average.
| Per day | Numbers |
|---|---|
| Bamboo produced | ~30k-40k |
| /order revenue | ~540k-720k coins |
| /sell revenue (instant) | ~360k-480k |
| Realistic daily | ~500k-700k |
Over 30 days: 15-21M coins essentially free.
A bamboo farm pairs beautifully with:
Combined: 3-5M coins/day passive from a $5 investment.
Once your bamboo farm is humming, reinvest the coins into:
The bamboo farm "graduates" you to the spawner stage. Don't dismantle it — let it keep running.
Do I need to be online for the farm to work? Yes — bamboo grows only when the chunk is loaded by a nearby player.
Can I build it underground? Bamboo needs light to grow. Either skylight or torches every few blocks.
Is 7×7 the best size? Bigger is better (more plants = more yield), but 7×7 is the most space-efficient unit. Scale by adding more 7×7 farms in parallel chunks.
Do bamboo blocks sell better than raw bamboo? On /sell — yes, slightly. On /order — same per-bamboo-equivalent. Crafting takes time, not worth it usually.
