DonutSMP Bamboo Farm — Step-by-Step Tutorial

A bamboo farm is the cheapest, fastest passive income setup on DonutSMP. Build it in 30 minutes, earn 1-2M coins per day passive. Here's the exact tutorial.

What you need

• 7×7 plot of land near water
• 30 bamboo (find in jungle biomes, or buy 1M coins worth from /ah)
• 49 dirt or grass blocks
• 1 water bucket
• 4 hoppers
• 2 chests
• 8 minecart with chest (optional but recommended)
• 1 hour of build time

Step-by-step build

Layout

Mark a 7×7 grid. Each cell will hold one bamboo plant. Water source at one end flowing to opposite end.

Step 1 — Foundation

Place 49 dirt blocks in a 7×7 grid. Surround with stone or any solid block to contain the farm.

Step 2 — Water flow

Place water bucket at one corner. It'll flow to the opposite corner (water flows 8 blocks naturally).

Step 3 — Plant bamboo

Right-click each dirt block with bamboo to plant. You should have 49 bamboo plants total.

Step 4 — Collection

Dig a 1-block trench at the bottom of the water flow. Place hopper minecart in the trench. As bamboo grows and breaks (from water flow), drops fall into the hopper.

Step 5 — Storage

Hopper from minecart trench → into double chest.

Step 6 — Auto-sell

When chest is full, run /sell all from your inventory. Or set up a hopper trade with the /sell NPC near spawn.

How it grows

Bamboo grows ~1 block every 2-3 minutes per plant in good light. Water flow naturally breaks the bamboo when it grows too tall, dropping items.

Yield per hour: ~120-180 bamboo per plant × 49 plants ÷ 60 min ≈ 5,000-7,000 bamboo/hour active.

Selling bamboo

• /sell shop: 12 coins each
• /order: 18 coins each (when listed in stacks)
• Crafting bamboo blocks (4 bamboo → 1 block) and selling those: 25 coins each = 6 coins per bamboo (worse per-bamboo)

Best: list 1+ stack of 64 on /order at 18 each. Sells instantly.

Daily profit

Active hours (you're online or alt is logged in): ~6-8 hours of farm running per day average.

Over 30 days: 15-21M coins essentially free.

Stacking with other farms

A bamboo farm pairs beautifully with:

• Mud farm (different blocks, doesn't share spawn caps)
• Skeleton spawner (in a separate chunk for AFK income while you idle)
• Auto-/sell macro in a different inventory slot

Common mistakes

• ❌ Building the farm too small — anything under 5×5 isn't worth the build time
• ❌ Water not flowing correctly — bamboo doesn't break, stops dropping

• ❌ Building in a chunk where the farm won't tick — needs to be within render distance

Upgrades over time

Once your bamboo farm is humming, reinvest the coins into:
